No longer are we in the day where a bookshelf of multiple encyclopedias is needed in order for a student to succeed. We no longer have sales people knocking on our doors telling us the importance of our children having their encyclopedias. Today students have all the information they need right at their fingertips. Information that allows them to, think outside the box, ask questions, and expand their knowledge.
Through technology such as blogging, a student can learn information on a topic they are studying in a new way. When a student blogs, their information becomes public information and other students and people around the world have the opportunity to add their knowledge to that student’s topic. Blogging allows students to go back and revisit information; they can go back days, weeks, even years. Blogging is also very cheap, unlike encyclopedias. Blogging allows you as a person to see the mistakes you are making through other peoples knowledge, no one is perfect. Blogging is a social network.
I always thought blogging was another system like facebook or myspace. As I continue to blog for this class, I am learning that there is more to blogging. This is a wonderful way to put your knowledge out in the world and get feed back from others around the world for free.
ReplyDeleteWell, and blogging is really kind of fun. When I was considering my homeschooling my son I read a lot of blogs from people who loved it and I read a lot of blogs from people who wished they had never done it. It was extremely valuable information to me and in some ways it helped me more than the official data provided online. I had not really thought of using blogging as an educational tool outside of my own personal research until this class. I'm surprised I'm saying this, but I'm glad I've been forced into it! Oh, and beautiful side note that you mentioned! Blogging is much cheaper than a whole set of encylopedias. No wonder no one ever threw their old sets away: they were too expensive to pitch!
