In a community centeredness students learn to respect others and their differences. Students learn to ask questions, they are not afraid to say I do not know or understand something. Students in community centeredness develop confidence in their own knowledge.
In the past I have made themes about diversity. During one theme week the children made passports during art time and later dressed up in clothes from their culture (I asked all the parents if they could donate the clothes). During lunch I had food from each child’s culture. Learning about the different cultures help them share their interests and learn about diversity.
I can evaluate daily. I can do a quick assessment as the children come into the classroom by making sure they are not showing signs of an illness or injury. I can observe each child during playtime to see if they are learning and growing in the environment. By collecting this information I can build a curriculum around their interest, and classroom behavior.
