My Goals

My Goals for this class is to learn as much about technology as I can. I have no clue what wiki, skype, and all the other things that are out today are. I am not into tweeter, I do have facebook. I do not use a GPS, I am a plain old map girl. I have a cell phone, but rarely use it, it is more for emergencies. I am hoping this class will help me get up to date with this generation of kids. I hate that my kids know more than me.

    Amy, how are you going to be able to judge whether you meet his goal? What do you want to learn, specifically--other that what these tools and applications are?

    The instructions for your first post indicated, "Your first blog entry should outline your goals for this course. What do you already know and what do you want to learn? Explain why you chose these goals? Be specific. Don't include ideas such as learn as much as you can or learn about the computer. These are too vague and don't allow you to judge whether you actually have met these goals."

    You've mentioned what you don't know, but not really thought about what you do know. What competencies do you have that you can use to learn about these other technologies? What do you know about education, learning theories, lesson plan development, etc. that you can use to succeed in this course.

    1) Tell yourself that it is okay for your kids to know more about something than you do. Use their knowledge to help you in this course. Then you are sharing together.
    2) Use that you hate they know more to your advantage--as a motivator.

    I know very little when it comes to computers. I do know how to use Facebook. I can download pictures off my digital camera and I can do word, PowerPoint, and spreadsheets. I do not know what wiki, Skype, and podcast are. I would like to know what they are and I would like to know how to make a URL for wiki.

    Most of this is new to me too. Actually all of it is. I tried facebook and did not really like it. I do not want my info out there, fiends of friends, you konw what I mean. My friend told me I can make my facebook private. I decided to delete mine. I just recently started to text on my phone. I really would like to catch up too when it comes to technology. It really makes our lives much easier if you know how to utalize it.

    I think all of these devices and websites are harder then they seem. I am not into twitter that much either although I have an account. Following people online and everything is overwhelming for me sometimes because I hate searching for stuff! Good luck in the class!
